Application for Courses and Student Visa

Step One: Prior Consideration & Study Plan


AVSS qualified counselors will use their professional experience assisting overseas students to suit individual’s need and goal. There are a numbers of factors significantly important in determining your success. All factors are to be considered including:


  • Purpose for studying in Australia
  • Study options & the best suitable courses
  • Costs of tuition fees & other expenses
  • Academic background
  • Employment background and future career
  • Age
  • English proficiency
  • Location of preferred institution & course offered
  • Any supports from family or/and friends in Australia
  • Life style
  • And many, many more factors to consider and plan etc…


Step Two: Application to Education Institution


  • Choose institution
  • Prepare all relevant documents as following:
    1. Copy of ID page of passport
    2. Education record(s) for the last 2 – 4 years of study including subjects and results
    3. Award certificate such as bachelor degree certificate or diploma certificate etc.
    4. Employment documents (if any)
    5. Resume
    6. IELTS results (if required)
    7. Other documents to support your application
  • Complete application form and prepare for a fee (if any)
  • Send application with certified documents to institution
  • Follow up application until Offer Letter received
  • Pay tuition fee and follow up until Confirmation of Enrolment (COE) received


Step Three: Application for Student Visa

Student visa requirements will vary depending on country assessment levels 1 – 4. Our counselors will advise you in relation to documents and information required depending on country of your passport. However, in general, you will need to demonstrate that:


  • you are genuine student *;
  • you have enough fund for tuition fee and living expenses in Australia;
  • you enroll in a full time course registered on CRICOS;
  • you have appropriate English level for the course;
  • you have adequate Overseas Student Health Cover (OSHC);
  • you have health clearance;
  • others


*Factors may include education background, employment records, immigration history, consistency of information provided and etc…

CHECKLIST OF DOCUMENTS


(sample for Country Assessment Level 2 such as Thailand)



  • Certified copy of your passport
  • Student visa application charge (A$540 at 1 July 2009)
  • Copy of COE
  • Copy of OHSC (Medibank or AHM or World Care)
  • Statement in relation to study plan in Australia
  • Evidence of fund such as bank statement, bank book etc.
  • A letter to confirm financial support (if relevant)
  • Previous education records such as bachelor certificate, transcripts etc.
  • Evidence of health clearance
  • Resume
  • Employment reference (if any)
  • Evidence of Name Change (if any)
  • Copy of Marriage Certificate (if any)
  • Evidence of de facto relationship (if any)
  • Copy of Birth Certificate of child (if any)
  • Others to be advised


Student Visa Processing by AVSS Counselors



  • Complete application form 157A either on paper or online
  • Submit application with required documents (as on CHECKLIST)
  • Communicate with the Department of Immigration & Citizenship until student visa application finalized


Step Four: Visa Grant


For Students outside Australia


  • Advise student regarding visa conditions, work right and limitation
  • Liaison with institution in relevant matters
  • Pre departure orientation
  • Liaison with AVSS branch in Australia for student support


For Students already in Australia
